RHS Garden Wisley hosts Pinks and Carnations Open Day

Garden and greenhouse growers have today (June 17th) been heading to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Garden Wisley's Pinks and Carnations Open Day.

Editor-in-chief of the RHS Encyclopaedia of Perennials Graham Rice explained in his blog yesterday that the forecast of cool conditions would be ideal, as it can often be overly warm at the event.

The expert noted the Border Carnations and Pinks Trials Assessment Panel will be on hand to distribute advice on growing the plants on show.

Attendees will have also been able to listen to Sue Hoy discuss Perfect Pinks in a cutting demonstration, while Mark Trenear gave a talk on the history of the flowers.

"Not only that, but the British National Carnation Society show will be taking place so you'll be able to see a wide range of perfect blooms - always inspiring," Mr Rice said.

Gardeners who missed the show still have a range of other events that may interest them this year.

RHS Harlow Carr is set to host its Bonsai Display on Father's Day (June 21st) from 12:00 until 16:30 BST.
