RHS to host strawberry growing event

13:07:20 2nd July 2009

Gardeners interested in using their greenhouse and outdoor space to grow their own food may wish to head to the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Harlow Carr site.

It is set to host the latest in a string of Grow Your Own days, with strawberries the latest specimen on the agenda.

Experts will be on hand to distribute hints and tips on how to get the best out of glasshouse and soil crops.

RHS kitchen gardener at the site Alison Mundie explained cultivating food can be "surprisingly easy".

"Growing your own is a great way to encourage all the family to eat fresh fruit and vegetables and enjoy the taste of home-grown produce," she said.

Ms Mundie added it is also a good way of getting fresh air and exercise.

The Harlow Carr event is to take place this Sunday (July 5th) from 10:00 until 16:00 BST.

Meanwhile, the RHS recently announced its Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is to have the backing of mayor of London Boris Johnson.
