Human Shrub hopes to save famous garden

Following the recent news the BBC intends to move the renowned Blue Peter Garden to Manchester, one man has decided to take action to stop it.

The children's show is being re-located from London's White City to a new site in 2011 - and its garden is set to follow.

However an anonymous man who calls himself the Human Shrub is set to stage a campaign to keep the green space, which has been in existence since the 1970s.

The Colchester resident dresses as a plant and attempts to promote garden and greenhouse growing.

He has been known to rescue local flowerbeds and had attempts to start a petition against the site's closure rejected by the Number 10 website.

He told the East Anglia Daily Times: "The Blue Peter Garden is a sacred land which must be saved for the future. Why do humans only try to save human-made buildings when there are just as important lands to save?"

The children's show's land also has some of the programme's famous pets buried in it - one of whom is George the tortoise, who was believed to have been in his 80s when he passed away.
