Brits are being urged to get out into their gardens next week as part of National Tree Week and a world record attempt.

Britain's garden and greenhouse enthusiasts are being urged to plant a tree next week to help support a record attempt.

National Tree Week runs from November 25th until December 6th, but BBC Tree O'Clock takes place on December 5th.

The aim of the event is to get as many people as possible to plant a tree and hopefully set a new Guinness World Record.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is backing the attempt and more than 250,000 people from 67 counties across the country have already agreed to take part.

Brits looking for tree buying, planting and maintenance advice can find it on the RHS website.

The organisation recently launched a new study into the types of plants that help garden and greenhouse enthusiasts boost the number of bugs in their green space.

"The average garden contains around 70 per cent non-native plants, but their role in supporting wildlife is unclear," explained RHS horticultural advisor Helen Bostock.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19467448-ADNFCR
