Northumberland gardeners get tips

16:03:20 23rd March 2010

Northumberland garden and greenhouse fans were today (March 23rd) given a chance to tap the brains of a horticultural expert.

Award-winning grower Bob Tridgett gave a free question and answer session at Heighley Gate, sharing his knowledge with attendees, the Morpeth Herald reported.

The seasoned gardener has scooped prizes such as the BBC Gardener of the Year and a silver gilt award at the Royal Horticultural Society's show at Tatton Park.

He explained that he was keen to pass on his wisdom to others and hoped that those visiting would get a lot out of the free event.

"People may want suggestions on what to plant where, or what plant combinations go together, and I will be happy to suggest what I think would work for their garden," he told the newspaper before the session.

Heighley Gate general manager Roger Wale told the Morpeth Herald that Mr Tridgett's presence was a major coup for the garden centre and explained that it represents a real opportunity for visitors to expand their knowledge.

Meanwhile, those growing gooseberries should prune them now to help bolster this year's crop, the Huddersfield Examiner has suggested.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19684764-ADNFCR
