July garden and greenhouse advice

19:07:20 8th July 2010

Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts often enjoy the month of July as a time when they can relax a little and take pleasure in the fruits of their labour.

However, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has created a list of tasks that should be useful for those hoping to get the best out of their plants this summer.

It suggested that the weather may be warm enough to take some species out of the greenhouse and place them in the garden.

However, the warm weather can increase the chances of clematis wilt, so it may be prudent to regularly check for signs of this.

Tubs should be watered when necessary, but the RHS reminded gardeners not to waste any of the precious liquid, especially during the warmer months.

Deadheading should be carried out throughout the month to help ensure continuous flowering occurs, while algae, blanket weeds and debris should be cleared from ponds.

Meanwhile, the RHS recently announced that it had appointed its first-ever female president.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19880669-ADNFCR
