Greenhouse enthusiasts looking for a day out may be interested to hear the opinion of one major newspaper, which has suggested a grand palace in Kent.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Penshurst Place is an enchanting place that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Boasting a history that goes back more than 600 years, the ancestral home of the Sidney family has a recently-restored 80-metre double herbaceous border designed by Chelsea gold medallist George Carter ready to open this summer.
The stone benches in the borders, colour-coordinated herbaceous plants and shrub, along with historic varieties of apple trees make it a delightful option, the newspaper noted.
"Children can let off steam in the playground – and visitors can enjoy seeing the gardens bursting into spring," it added.
Earlier this month, the same publication recommended the Edulis nursery in Berkshire as a place to see a wide range of unusual edible plants and exotic fruits.
