Displaying woodland tree branches in the home can create a feeling of spring for any greenhouse enthusiast, an expert has suggested.
In an article for the Daily Telegraph, Sarah Raven revealed she is getting very impatient for the onset of warmer weather, but she has found a way to cheer herself up in the meantime.
She suggested now is a good time to cut branches from horse chestnut, sweet chestnut, ash, apple and oak trees before showing them off in a variety of ways.
Whichever branches are used, Ms Raven continued, they need to be put straight into deep water and left in a light and warm place for two to three weeks.
Then, they can be displayed in a vase or jug, or simply lined up on a mantelpiece.
"In a small space, use cut flowers mixed with twigs of forced leaves for simple early spring arrangements," she added.
Francine Raymond recently wrote in the same publication that the key to growing plants in a small space is to maximise the use of vertical space.
