Greenhouse enthusiasts in the Barnet area thinking of starting a new community garden group can apply for funding from the mayor of London Boris Johnson, who has pledged £35,000 to share around horticulture clubs to cultivate food.
Community garden groups can apply for funding up to the tune of £750 before November 7th in order to begin growing fruit and vegetables as part of Mr Johnson's Capital Growth Programme.
The mayor told the Hendon & Finchley Press that the programme had been a great success for the community in Barnet and hoped the new cash incentive would encourage even more residents to join his "Team London Army".
"Volunteering to improve your local environment is not only great fun and a cheap source of healthy food, but an important way for some people to gain valuable skills," he added.
The Capital Growth Programme was originally launched in 2008 alongside the London Food Link charity in order to help the city become greener and improve people's quality of life.
