A sheltered housing scheme in Leeds has won by a group of greenhouse enthusiasts. The group was awarded the Yorkshire Housing best garden prize for helping to improve the life of local residents.
The group of four created a flower garden filled with roses, clematis and fuchsias which helped envelop the residents of St Mary's, Wortley, in colour.
One of the winners Rita Cundall told the Yorkshire Evening Post the scheme has helped renew a love for gardening within the community as people take their friends to the patch for cups of tea.
Vicky Whetstone, the supervisor at St Mary's that nominated the four for the award added: "They have really taken it on, putting in a vegetable patch, pruning the flowers and coming up with ideas for fundraising to keep the garden looking its best."
Tenants at the Davies Hall housing complex in Shield, Tyne and Wear, have been taking part in the housing provider's Green Living Project in a bid to improve their health.
