The Edible Garden lacking in tips

Garden and greenhouse fans hoping to pick up a host of helpful hints and tips from The Edible Garden will be left wanting, it has been claimed.

According to the Daily Mirror, the BBC 2 programme is more akin to The Good Life than a hardcore gardening programme, focussing more on the lifestyle than actually educating growers.

The newspaper‘s Jane Simon has had a sneak preview of tonight‘s episode and claimed that viewers could be “bemused” by the format of the show.

Those watching can expect to be introduced to presenter Alys Fowler‘s new chickens under watchful eye of her Jack Russel, with the show focusing on peas and beans.

However, Ms Simon claimed that while growers will pick up some advice, they will be more concerned with the fashion choices of the host than the actual content of the programme.

“It‘s more about lifestyle as we get black and white clips of summers, cutesy animation and costume changes,” Ms Simon explained.

The journalist insinuated that more would be expected from a show fronted by a regular contributor to horticulture mainstay Gardeners‘ World.

In other news, the Royal Horticultural Society has developed a fruit and vegetable growing application for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19708803-ADNFCR
