Introduce kids to garden and greenhouse

Introducing your children to the garden and greenhouse can be a great way of educating them about the natural world, it has been claimed.

According to madeformums.com, teaching kids about soil processes, how seeds grow and the animals that live in the yard is vital in the development of their knowledge of the world.

The website has teamed up with Amanda Grant, author of Grow It Cook It With Kids, to offer a number of tips on how to teach youngsters about horticulture.

One piece of advice is how to grow herbs in the garden – a great idea for kids as they will eventually get to eat what they cook, literally tasting the fruits of their labour.

It suggests that parents take their kids to choose the herbs, allowing them to smell and taste them before buying.

Thyme, sage, rosemary, mint, basil and parsley are all good places to start as they are fairly easy to grow and are very useful in the kitchen.

In other news, ratedpeople.com has revealed that house builder Taylor Wimpey has formed a partnership with Royal Horticultural Society expert Alex Denman to offer garden and greenhouse tips.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19723708-ADNFCR
