Greenhouse enthusiasts may be interested to learn that an award winning gardener has joined the design team developing a new outside space at a day hospice in Devon.
Michael Hickson, former head gardener of the Knightshayes Garden Trust, will oversee the creation of the greenery at the new Pine Lodge hospice, Tiverton People reports.
Plans for the two-acre site include a gazebo and scented garden along with a boundary of shrubs to attract wildlife.
"My whole thinking is to create a garden which is attractive and welcoming with soft colours, but which is easy to maintain," Mr Hickson said.
Prior to joining the team at Pine Lodge, the expert was recently awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Victoria Medal of Honour for services to gardening.
The hospice is set to be completed in June, with volunteers scheduled to start work on the surrounding space later in the year.
Earlier this month, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds announced it is teaming up with healthcare provider Bupa to set up wildlife gardens in several of its care homes in Wales.
