A recent attempt to break a world record has fallen short, leaving thousands of garden and greenhouse enthusiasts disappointed.
The Tree O‘Clock initiative set up by the BBC saw teams of horticulture fans join together in an attempt to break the record for the most trees planted in a single hour.
Despite the fact that around 500,000 trees were planted during the December event, it fell short of the 654,143 planted in the Philippines in 2006, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) revealed.
However, one record was broken in last month‘s effort. Teams were split into groups of 100 planters in an attempt to break the record for the most trees planted in an hour by no more than 100 people.
Three teams achieved this feat, with a Northern Irish group planting 26,422 saplings in Londonderry‘s Gransha Woods.
The successful team now holds the record after beating the previous total by more than 8,000.
Meanwhile, the RHS has revealed that it has added Pak Choi to its trials list, meaning that it will be considered for an Award of Garden Merit.
