Garden and greenhouse owners in Glasgow are being encouraged to grow their own fruit and vegetables by a local eatery.
Cookie – a restaurant, shop and deli – is planning to start a food trade scheme that allows growers to exchange and sell their excess produce to the local community.
The Urban Gardener Barter Food Exchange will also see the food used in the company‘s kitchen and co-owner Domenico Del Priore explained that he would be delighted to hear from interested parties.
“We also have a stand outside which we would like to fill with local produce to offer a truly alternative means of supply to our community,” he said.
Mr Del Priore added that one of the main aims of the scheme is to encourage local growers to share their healthy food with the community and help the environment by cutting down on food miles.
He explained that Scottish gardeners have the opportunity to grow a range of fresh and tasty foods.
Meanwhile, scientists in Wales are experimenting with growing food following a forest ecosystem structure, the Royal Horticultural Society reported.
