A garden and greenhouse enthusiast is set to benefit from a scholarship set up in memory of a much-loved grower.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) revealed that Leeds resident James Horner has become the first recipient of the award.
He will now spend a year studying at Great Dixter under the Christopher Lloyd scholarship programme.
The scheme was set up to honour the garden‘s former owner and will see Mr Horner expand upon the knowledge he has already gained in his role as gardener at Lotherton Hall Bird Garden near Leeds.
According to the RHS, the scholarship is run in conjunction with English Heritage‘s Historic and Botanic Garden Bursary Scheme.
It will train Mr Horner and any future recipients in the art of plantsmanship and garden craft using a mix of traditional and modern techniques.
Meanwhile, London‘s Garden Museum is seeking an intern to replace Matthew Collins, who enjoyed a successful year in the role.
